Thanksgiving Plans, Cottage Trip & Curating Our Winter Clothes Collection

Bill and Deb at a cozy table with good food and wine.

How are you? I’m hoping that all is well in your sphere. Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is here! Time flies! What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Deb and I are having a quiet Thanksgiving at the house in Chanhassen. We’ll cook the turkey and make the necessary fixings: mashed potatoes, gravy, wild rice and a few more sides that will come together Thanksgiving morning. Sometimes kitchen spontaneity just happens! I hope that wherever your Thanksgiving happens that it can be full of grace and gratitude. We all have so much to be thankful for.

We’ll probably head in to Brightwater for a while, too. I’m one of those old school retailers who believes holiday decorations don’t come out until after Thanksgiving. So we will start a little decorating for the holidays. A weekend or so ago, Deb and I went up to the cottage to gather the greens for Brightwater and our home. It’s a tradition that I’ve been doing for as long as Brightwater has been around. Actually, it’s something that my dad and I used to do as a kid. I still go to the same spots — this place for white pine, that place for jack pine, cedar down the road by the swamp, and balsam from the higher grounds. If for no other reason, it’s so great to get out in the woods and enjoy the quiet. We had snow on the Saturday that we were up there. That always makes me happy!

And speaking of Brightwater, we are decked to the rafters with a pretty great selection of clothing and gift offerings. Beautiful sweaters for men and women from Dale of Norway, We Norwegians, Bare Knitwear, White + Warren, and a very cool new line of cashmere sweaters from an Italian company, Piacenza. A great selection of hats, Hestra mitts and gloves, scarves and more. I’ve got an incredible selections of vests, jackets, and parkas too. As a special Black Friday / Small Business Saturday deal, all Parajumpers vests, jackets, and parkas will be 25% off through Sunday the 26th! Although the fall has been pleasantly mild, it’s not going to be that way for long. The snow and the cold is inevitable here in Minnesota. Be prepared! There’s no bad weather, just bad clothes!

The Holiday season in Excelsior starts this weekend with The Christkindlmarkt. Modeled after a German outdoor Christmas market, it has been a holiday tradition going back as long as I have been in Excelsior! It’s so much fun for the whole fam! It runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Put a visit to Excelsior on this weekend’s list, check out the Christkindlmarkt, and swing by Brightwater to get a jump on your Christmas list. There will be some sips and bites to enjoy, too.

I wish you the very best Thanksgiving! Enjoy the preparation, the wonderful meal, and maybe a nap afterwards in front of a football game! I’m looking forward to all of that, too!

I’m thankful for each and every one of you. I’m grateful for all of your support for Brightwater and for me. Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
Lots of love,- Bill
